Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing divine entities, fiends, and malevolent powers expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and introduced the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.
This warrior group consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by the voice actor), the agile character (the talented performer), Tyranny (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
The Reason for Division
With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at one table would be impossible.
That’s why, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before dividing into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.
What Defines the Warrior Group
As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven story mode where non-violent answers are scarce.
Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the developments of the third episode show why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a intense opening clash with the antagonists.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose death started the campaign’s events—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.
Casimir then settled his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each character has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the companion and best friend, desires vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and warns that it is a dangerous location.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill the target and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their status as important members in the influential clan could help the party enter places they usually can’t.
- Moreover, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are known criminals.
- Tyranny and Wicander turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by the clan.
This results in them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in search of the antagonist.
Future Episodes
Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the Soldiers table will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Questers and Strategists tables.
Fans can look forward to learning which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on October 24.
